Discover the charming history of the Hannans Hotel!
This iconic establishment, located on Hannans Street, has been welcoming guests since 1895 and remains a beloved hotel to this day.
Originally named the Home Away From Home Hotel, it became known in 1934 due to riots sparked by a fight involving Italian barman Claudio Mattaboni, which tragically resulted in the death of local man George Jordan. Despite these challenges, the hotel has stood the test of time.
Today, you can admire a mural in the Hannans Hotel Dining Room depicting the burnt-out Home Away from Home, serving as a poignant reminder of its storied past.
The hotel was rebuilt and still features its original stone façade with a charming bullnose verandah over the footpath, preserving its connection to history. Remarkably, the Hannans Hotel has been owned and operated by the same family for over 35 years, ensuring a warm and welcoming experience for all guests.
Hannans Hotel is proud to continue the legacy of this historic hotel, located centrally just a few minutes’ drive from the airport, walking distance to the centre of town and the racecourse.
